""As a precaution, the pilots returned to PDX where medical professionals met the aircraft at the gate and evaluated crew members and guests.""
An Alaska Airlines flight bound for Las Vegas made an emergency landing in Portland after a strong odor was detected in the cockpit. The Boeing 737-800, which took off at approximately 9:50 a.m., was quickly brought back to Portland International Airport, where fire crews assisted in evacuating passengers. Although nine individuals requested medical evaluations, no serious injuries were reported. The aircraft, a 14-year-old model, was subsequently inspected by Alaska Airlines' maintenance team. The cause of the odor remains unclear, and the airline apologized for the inconvenience.
