Nolan Parker is the new music editor at the Portland Mercury, bringing a wealth of experience from both Portland and Berlin's dynamic music scenes. His journey began in 2011 when he embraced Portland’s music culture through roles at local venues and record stores. Co-founding 'Schmutz,' Berlin's first English-language music magazine, he contributed a rich gig-guide and scene reports. After returning to Portland in 2021 and completing his Master of Library Science, he joined the Mercury in his dream role, also managing the community resource Government Palace to promote local arts.
The Portland music scene is vibrant and I am excited to contribute to it through my role as music editor at the Mercury.
Our magazine, Schmutz, was a love letter to Berlin's live music scene, featuring a gig-guide and in-depth interviews.
Government Palace emphasizes not just music but a range of cultural activities, enhancing community engagement across the arts.
I’m grateful for the support from Mercury donors that makes it possible for me to pursue my dream job.
