IFCC, looking to renew, makes its Grant and Artist Residency program permanent * Oregon ArtsWatch
Briefly

The Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center's Artist Grant and Residency program is transitioning from temporary pandemic relief funding to a permanent initiative, supported by the City of Portland and community fundraising. Annually, it offers $10,000 to $12,000 grants to 16 artists and additional smaller grants for those not requiring residency, with the goal of enhancing their artistic practices. In exchange, these artists are asked to engage with the community through performances. Originally funded by the American Rescue Plan Act in 2022, the program's sustainability illustrates a commitment to revitalizing Portland’s Black cultural heritage in light of recent social movements.
The Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center's Artist Grant and Residency program, initially funded through pandemic relief, will continue permanently thanks to new funding and community efforts.
The program enables Portland artists to receive support and space to enhance their artistic careers, while encouraging community engagement through performances and activities.
Funded initially by the American Rescue Plan Act, Friends of IFCC raised additional funds, including a $120,000 grant from the Portland Office of Arts and Culture.
This initiative, part of a broader effort to revitalize Portland's Black cultural scene, stems from the mobilization in response to George Floyd's murder.
