During the Triton Poker series in Jeju, South Korea, Xu Wang astonished spectators by folding pocket kings in a high-stakes no-limit hold'em event. Facing an all-in from 2022 World Series champion Espen Jorstad after a series of raises, Wang decided to lay down his kings, correctly reading Jorstad's pocket aces. This decision sparked disbelief among commentators who highlighted the rarity and difficulty of such a fold in poker. Although Wang made an impressive play, he ultimately did not cash in the tournament, while Jorstad placed 27th for $41,000, and Zhao Hongjun won for $818,000.
"If this man folds pocket kings... I don't know how far we are from the ocean, but I'm diving right into it," said commentator Ali Nejad.
"You just can't fold this, right?" asked co-commentator Randy Lew, highlighting the conventional wisdom around the strength of pocket kings.
A stunned Jorstad couldn't believe his opponent was able to throw that hand away. Pocket aces are an 81% favorite against pocket kings, according to the Card Player Poker Odds Calculator.
Despite making a brilliant fold, Wang did not cash in the tournament, while Espen Jorstad finished 27th for $41,000.
