Maximizing value bets in poker is crucial for boosting long-term profits. Many players fail to correctly maximize their bets on the river, which is a key mistake.
Over the last couple of years, I can only think of two river value bets I did where I seriously wonder if I was value betting too thinly. The majority of the time, my opponents simply chose to call my small bets instead of considering raising as a bluff.
Most players play emotionally and fear humiliation from folding to what they perceive as a small bet bluff. They often call down too much to avoid second-guessing themselves.
When you have the best hand and someone checks to you on the river, always bet. Most players do not bluff enough and will miss opportunities.
