Nevada Prediction Market Warning Forces Aria To Nix Conference - Poker News
Nevada gaming regulators and prediction markets are in an escalating conflict, prompting Aria to cancel a planned industry conference. MGM Resorts, Aria’s parent company, became concerned about possible issues involving the Nevada Gaming Control Board. The NGCB sued Polymarket in state court in January and obtained a temporary restraining order, following a prior courtroom clash with Kalshi in federal court. In October, the NGCB warned Nevada casinos about doing business with prediction market firms. The casino removed “Predict 2026” from its schedule, citing Nevada’s regulatory and enforcement position. Prediction markets also compete with sports betting and online gaming operators, taking market share and contributing to weaker betting outcomes such as reduced Super Bowl wagering in Nevada.
"If a Nevada licensee chooses to offer sports and other event contracts in Nevada or decides to partner with other entities offering sports and other event contracts in the state, the board will consider these developments as it evaluates the suitability of the entity to maintain a Nevada gaming license."
"The [Aria] is issuing this notice in light of Nevada's current regulatory and enforcement position regarding prediction markets. "
"The cancellation came after parent company MGM Resorts became concerned about possible issues with the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB). The NGCB sued Polymarket in state court in January and a judge issued a temporary restraining order against the company. This followed a courtroom clash with Kalshi in federal court."
"Prediction markets have become direct competitors to sports betting and online gaming operators such as the BetMGM platform. Prediction markets have taken a big piece of the sports betting market share away from online sportsbook operators. For example, Nevada saw weaker Super Bowl betting this year, the lowest since 2016."
