Flagler County illegal gambling machines seized crackdown
"These unregulated machines rarely pay out because they are set for the house to win. Illegal gambling is not a victimless crime. Often, it fuels other crime and preys on residents who are often elderly and on a limited income in the hopes of a big win."
"The Flagler County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit, in coordination with the Florida Gaming Control Commission, conducted an undercover operation - dubbed "Reels of Fortune" - which focused on reports of illegal gambling at Flagler County businesses."
"By the time the searches wrapped up, detectives had taken 20 gaming machines and $16,856.80 in cash. Flagler County's role was part of a larger, coordinated push stretching across Brevard, Duval, Flagler and Volusia counties."
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit, working with the Florida Gaming Control Commission, conducted an undercover operation called "Reels of Fortune" targeting illegal gambling machines. On February 24, deputies executed four search warrants at Palm Coast Lanes and three Bunnell establishments: 1405 Saloon, Ike's Saloon, and Crossroads Tavern. The operation resulted in the seizure of 20 gaming machines and $16,856.80 in cash. This effort was part of a larger coordinated initiative across Brevard, Duval, Flagler, and Volusia counties. Sheriff Rick Staly emphasized that illegal gambling is not victimless, as unregulated machines are rigged to favor the house and often prey on elderly residents and those with limited incomes.
