Online music listening on par with radio in UK. (Ofcom research)
Briefly

Ofcom's 2025 edition of the Audio Listening in the UK report reveals shifting trends in audio consumption. The study shows that approximately 60% of adults now engage with online music services, equivalent to traditional music radio. A notable increase in the use of streaming services in cars (up 8 percentage points since 2018) suggests a decline in radio and physical media usage. Moreover, over 70% of voice assistant users listen to music and radio through smart speakers, with podcast listenership stabilizing at 22% among adults, highlighting distinct preferences between podcasts and radio.
The number of people listening to online music services each week is now on a par with those listening to music radio, at around six in ten adults aged 16+.
Over seven in ten (71%) people who use a voice assistant use it to listen to both radio stations and other types of audio, such as music streaming or podcasts.
