A Los Angeles judge has allowed a lawsuit by Michael Crichton's estate to proceed against Warner Bros., claiming that the new show 'The Pitt' is a rebranded version of the failed 'ER' reboot they were negotiating. The estate argues that prior approval was needed for any derivative works and expresses confidence in winning the case. Warner Bros. maintains that they are strong in their position, while Noah Wyle, the star of both shows, insists that there are no character similarities between 'ER' and 'The Pitt.' The next hearing is set for March 26.
Sherri Crichton was thrilled that the original team behind ER wanted to do a reboot and was shocked when Warner Bros. abruptly broke off negotiations and announced The Pitt - a carbon copy of the ER reboot that was pitched to her.
The judge has not decided any of the claims in this case. She simply ruled that the case will proceed. We continue to believe in the strength of our position and that we will ultimately prevail.
The Crichton Estate looks forward to presenting its case to a jury and is confident it will prevail.
Wyle also denied any similarities between the two shows in a statement, explaining, 'ER and The Pitt do not have any of the same characters.'
