This land is your land: leaf portraits of Ecuador's female farmers in pictures
Briefly

In Ecuador's Zuleta community, agriculture is intertwined with ancestral traditions and a deep connection to the land. Photographer Yinna Higuera collaborates with local women to document their knowledge of medicinal plants and their stories, using chlorophyll printing to create portraits layered onto banana leaves and herbs. This artistic endeavor, titled Traces and shortlisted for the Sony World Photography Awards, seeks to honor these women's roles as earth stewards while showcasing their strength and resilience. An exhibition of the series will be held at Somerset House in London from April 17 to May 5, 2025.
