The Seoul Museum of Art has inaugurated the Photography Museum of Seoul (Photo-SeMA) in Dobong-gu, marking a significant cultural milestone as the country's first public photography museum. Spanning 7,048 sq. m., Photo-SeMA will feature over 20,000 artworks from SeMA's collection and will debut two exhibitions focused on "light obsession". These include commissioned works from contemporary artists exploring the museum's identity and a retrospective of influential Korean art photographers. The museum's development aims to position Seoul as a key player in the global photography scene.
"Together with Buk-Seoul Museum of Art, we hope that Photography Seoul Museum of Art will become a new cultural anchor in the northeastern region of Seoul."
"We aim to establish this institution as Korea's leading museum of photography and a prominent presence in Asia and beyond."
