After unexpectedly settling in his hometown of Neskowin, artist Michael Schlicting launched a project to preserve local history. Over 47 years, he transformed the old schoolhouse into Hawk Creek Gallery and recently embarked on a quest for historic photographs. Utilizing social media, Schlicting's efforts culminated in the creation of a coffee-table book titled 'Neskowin: A Book of Found Photos,' showcasing the town's history across a hundred years, much more than just his initial quest for the schoolhouse's past.
In the click of a keystroke, Schlicting found not just photos of his little old schoolhouse, but of an entire town - enough to fill a book.
The idea for the book took hold about three years ago after Schlicting made a plea on Facebook for old photos of the schoolhouse.
