In the third annual Booooooom Photo Awards, Grant Harder was recognized as the winner in the Nature category. Living in Vancouver with his family, Harder strives to capture honest images of people and places, reflecting his deep connection with nature. In an interview, he discussed how his approach to photography has matured over nearly a decade, transitioning from rigid practices to a more experimental and open mindset. This shift allows him to explore new techniques and enhances the energy in his work, despite finding it more challenging to share his new creations.
My approach hasn’t changed much; I still seek suspended moments with specific light qualities while embracing kindness. However, I’ve become more open to creative experimentation.
Earlier in my career, I was less free creatively—now I have more tools in my toolbox and the images I create carry a different energy.
