A 40-year-old man named Jahan Kia was arrested for allegedly igniting a fire in his Plainview home that resulted in the deaths of two dogs and a cat. The blaze, which started in the basement stairwell, sent two firefighters to the hospital due to smoke inhalation and burns. Nearly 100 firefighters from nearby departments responded to the fire, which also damaged neighboring houses. Kia faces multiple charges including arson and animal cruelty as the investigation continues, leaving tenants to sift through charred remains for their belongings.
"This is horrible - I don't understand, why would you harm your own animals?" said one emotional neighbor, expressing disbelief at the incident.
"Maybe have only seen him a handful of times and have never spoken to him like I have everyone else," said the neighbor, describing the suspect.
