Two Oakland residents, Semaj Ivey, 30, and Keevan Grandy, 53, were charged with felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor abandonment after police found evidence of beatings in their apartment. A neighbor reported alleged abuse in July, and Ivey provided animal control officers a video of her tying a husky to a door as punishment. A husky and a pitbull were found with numerous fractures in various stages healing; the husky suffered more than 30 broken bones and the pitbull around 10. Police recovered a baseball bat allegedly used to beat the husky. Both pleaded not guilty, were released, and face a preliminary hearing in late February; charges were filed on New Year's Eve.
