Chevy, an 8-week-old kitten, was rescued after being found trapped in a car's engine compartment by Belmont Animal Control. The team, responding to a resident's report of meowing, successfully lured the kitten out using a cat sound video. He was taken to the Animal Rescue League's Dedham center for a veterinary exam, where he was deemed healthy. Chevy, who gained weight and received vaccinations, is now up for adoption. The rescue emphasizes the importance of checking vehicles for hidden animals, as this is the third similar rescue this year.
Belmont Animal Control responded to a resident's home for a report of meowing coming from the driveway. The team popped open the hood of the resident's car and found the kitten, who ran from the engine to an old fox den for hiding.
The officer lured the kitten out using a YouTube video of a cat's meow and brought him to ARL's Dedham Animal Care & Adoption Center for evaluation and care.
Chevy, who initially weighed just 2 pounds, has since gained a little weight, received vaccinations, and been neutered.
The ARL noted in the statement that Chevy is the third cat the shelter has assisted following a rescue from a car's engine compartment this year.
