'I was surprised with the reaction to my online appeal' - how dog blood donor saved pet Alfie's life
Briefly

Mollie Ennis faced a crisis when her cavachon, Alfie, fell gravely ill due to auto-immune haemolytic anaemia. After being hospitalized, Alfie's condition worsened, requiring a blood transfusion. Desperate for help, Ennis reached out on social media, unexpectedly receiving numerous offers. A greyhound owner stepped forward with a compatible donor. This act of kindness highlighted community support, underscoring how connections can lead to lifesaving help for pets in need.
We've had Alfie for eight years now and he has never had a problem with his health... One Sunday evening recently he became lethargic and began vomiting.
When I arrived home from work on Monday, I noticed blood in his urine and rushed him back to the vet, who put him on IV fluids.
His blood count was 26 and his blood test results showed he had auto-immune haemolytic anaemia, a disorder in which red blood cells are attacked by the body's own antibodies.
Within 36 hours, despite intensive medication, his blood count dropped to 16 and we were told he would need to be transferred to a specialised hospital for a blood transfusion.
