Dougie, a young dachshund, suffered from significant breathing difficulties due to a severe lungworm infection. Diagnosed by Richard Sparrow at North Downs Specialist Referrals, Dougie received effective anti-parasitic treatment that led to a full recovery. Lungworm infections can arise from dogs consuming larvae from infected mollusks. His owner, Andrea Dyas, expressed deep gratitude for the care provided by NDSR, noting the relief once the diagnosis was made. Following treatment, Dougie returned to his playful self, enjoying outdoor activities once again after being fully vaccinated.
"Dougie was only four-months-old when he became ill and started breathing much faster and harder than usual. I was very concerned and upset and am incredibly grateful to Richard and the NDSR team for getting him back to full strength."
"Dougie presented with a four-day history of dyspnoea, which is an increased and laboured breathing rate. Although he was very bright and happy in himself, he was clearly putting a lot of effort into breathing, even using his abdominal muscles to help."
