Akeem Pierre, 42, was charged with animal cruelty and animal cruelty by custodian in the Dorchester division of Boston Municipal Court. He was released on personal recognizance with orders to stay away from the dog, not own animals, attend weekly probation meetings, and undergo a mental health evaluation. MSPCA law enforcement received a June 13 call and video showing Pierre walking Pluto and repeatedly whipping, screaming at, dragging, and lifting the dog by the leash. Pierre said he was pet-sitting and trying to train the dog and later claimed Pluto bit him, though the video does not show a bite. Pluto was uninjured, surrendered to the MSPCA, and has since been adopted. Pierre is due back in court Dec. 4 and has a 2021 pending operating-under-the-influence offense.
