Austin Animal Services Office releases fiscal year statistical report and waives adoption fees - Austin Monitor
Briefly

In response to persistent overcrowding, the Austin Animal Center has suspended adoption fees indefinitely to encourage adoptions. Recent statistics revealed a high intake during Fiscal Year 2025, with over 1,600 dogs and cats taken in, and many still awaiting homes. Chief Animal Services Officer Don Bland highlighted difficulties in tracking walk-in adoptions, suggesting the numbers might underrepresent actual adoptions. The shelter is currently at full capacity, accepting only critical intakes for dogs, demonstrating the urgent need for community support in fostering adoptive homes.
Adoption fees have been waived for at least a year. As long as we are short on space for intake, they will most likely be waived.
Don Bland noted the challenges in tracking walk-in adoptions, stating that the system does not currently account for these in the statistical reports.
The Austin Animal Center is currently at maximum capacity, only accepting critical emergency intakes for dogs as numbers continue to rise.
Statistics from the Austin Animal Services Office indicate a significant number of animals taken in, emphasizing the urgent need for adoptive homes.
