Daily routines include feeding and caring for multiple cats and fostering a new kitten from Marin Humane. The volunteer has experience with over 100 rescued cats, and has recently taken in a feral kitten that was previously considered challenging. With patience and affection, the kitten begins to trust and seek affection from the caregiver. Previous foster experiences and research, including methods learned online, help inform the approach to socializing and nurturing the new feline resident.
I open the zipped playpen door, and she runs out, tail up, looking for the telltale mat and saucer. I put them on the floor, and she begins eating heartily.
I've been volunteering at Marin Humane for about 18 months, feeding bunnies and cleaning their enclosures. I chose rabbits because I didn't know much about them, and I've learned a lot.
For 40 years, I've privately rescued, fostered and adopted out more than 100 cats and kittens. So, about eight months ago, I signed on to foster through Marin Humane.
I was in for the long haul. I followed the instructions and my instincts, and after a couple of days, the kitten allowed me to pet her as she ate.
