Claude Monet's painting, "Peupliers au bord de l'Epte, crépuscule" (1891), is set to headline Christie's upcoming auction with an estimated sale price of $30m-$50m. Part of the Les Peupliers series, inspired by trees along the Epte river near Giverny, the painting has a rich history, previously displayed at prestigious galleries and treasured in family collections. Notable for its beautiful color palette, the artwork will be showcased in Taipei before the auction on May 12, following its lengthy display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
"After being cherished for multiple generations in a family collection and being generously lent to museum exhibitions around the world, we are honoured to present this Impressionist masterpiece," Vanessa Fusco, the head of Impressionist and modern art at Christie's New York, said in a statement.
Christie's describes this painting as "particularly remarkable" for its crepuscular colour palette and the "dreamlike quality of vibrating and shifting light" during the passage from day to night.
