Manuel Mathieu, a Haitian artist, has launched an inaugural line of perfumes that blend his personal history with avant-garde artistry. Each fragrance reflects his intimate connection to Haiti, utilizing the world-renowned Haitian vetiver as a base. Mathieu, who works across various mediums, began his fragrance journey during an artist residency in Paris, collaborating with perfumer Juliette Karagueuzoglou to create three unique scents. In addition to their olfactory qualities, the bottles themselves are crafted as artistic sculptures, reinforcing Mathieu's vision of art infused into everyday experiences.
"Juliette told me if I wanted to do something valuable, I had to reveal myself," says Mathieu. He aimed to narrate a geological story related to Haiti.
Mathieu's bottles are not just vessels for fragrance but works of art, molded from hand-built clay sculptures that showcase his unique artistry.
