Sonya Moore's recent trip to French Polynesia highlighted both the beauty of the islands and aspects of travel she would change. Spending 16 days across six stunning islands, she found Bora Bora less ideal than expected. Key lessons included prioritizing proper travel research for ferry routes over flight schedules and budgeting more for food and wine. Notably, she praised her visit to Taha'a, accessed only by boat, where a memorable experience included swimming with manta rays in the ocean, showcasing the destination's hidden treasures.
I loved our trip to French Polynesia, but there are five things I'd have done differently to make it even better.
Some islands, like Taha'a, don't even have an airport. It's only accessible by boat via Raiatea - either a 45-minute Apetahi Express ferry or a 30-minute water taxi.
