"Prosecutors in the Britanny town of Saint-Malo confirmed to AFP they have started a formal investigation into a woman's claims, made in September 2024, that she was allegedly raped during the British film festival in Dinard in October 2012 when Bruel was jury chairman."
"Daniela Elstner, head of the Unifrance body that promotes French cinema, made a separate complaint last month over an alleged attempted rape and sexual assault, a source close to that inquiry told AFP. Elstner's lawyer confirmed the complaint."
"Bruel's lawyer, Christophe Ingrain, told AFP that the singer 'maintains he never rejected a refusal (to have sex), never forced anyone into a sexual act or relationship.'"
French prosecutors in Saint-Malo have initiated a formal investigation into rape allegations against 66-year-old singer and actor Patrick Bruel. A woman filed a complaint in September 2024 regarding alleged rape during the 1997 Dinard film festival when Bruel served as jury chairman. Separately, Daniela Elstner, head of Unifrance, filed a complaint about alleged attempted rape and sexual assault at a 1997 film festival in Acapulco. Mediapart reported accounts from six additional individuals claiming sexual assaults by Bruel between 1992 and 2019. Bruel's lawyer denies all allegations, stating his client never forced anyone into sexual acts. Previous investigations in 2020 and 2008 were closed without charges.
