Sheinelle Jones Shares 'the Biggest Pain' She Carries Now After Husband Uche's Death
Sheinelle Jones is grieving the death of her husband Uche Ojeh, who died in May 2025 after a battle with brain cancer. She and Uche met at Northwestern College and were married for over 17 years. She describes the biggest pain as not being able to take her teenage children’s pain away. She has three teenagers and creates space for vulnerability, reflection, and forward movement while acknowledging that they still need time to process. She says her pain is tied to the inability to fix what her children feel. She also notes there is no template for handling situations and that she is living through it in real time.
"“As a mom, it's tough because you don't want to make them sad,” she said. “I have three teenagers. So, there's a tap dance as their mom, allowing us all to be vulnerable. And there's a time and a space for us to reflect, and also a time for them to show we can't move on, we can move forward with that.”"
"“It's not my pain, it's that I can't fix (theirs),” she said. “As a mother, you just want to fix it. Your kids, you don't want them to hurt.” She said after his death, despite the emotional blow that came after, “As the mama bear, for me not to be able to fix it, even now is excruciating.”"
"Adding, “It's excruciating that I can't take that pain away.” The journalist said that “there's no template” to how she handles certain situations and “living it in real time.” She also spoke about previously being prepared for potential heartbreak, saying, “That was gonna suck and I was gonna have to be like, 'Have some chocolate, sit down, he's a jerk.'”"
"However, she never expected “this kind of heartbreak, and not only are your hearts breaking, but so is mine.” Sheinelle Jones is not only navigating her own grief, but also her children's after the death of her husband Uche Ojeh."
