Sharp rise in numbers claiming Child Benefit from outside State, countries of claimants revealed

According to new figures from the Department of Social Protection, over 6,700 children not residing in Ireland received Child Benefit payments last year, primarily targeting families where at least one parent made social contributions in Ireland.

The Department of Social Protection clarified that while Child Benefit typically requires the child to be "ordinarily resident" in Ireland, there are exceptions under EU law for families employed outside the state.
