Being a foreigner in Germany, I have faced challenges understanding local social norms, particularly the rigidity and lack of flexibility that characterizes their culture. The rules are very strict, and I see how they contribute to community order, yet sometimes it feels difficult to adapt to the rigid expectations, especially when it affects my children's day-to-day life, such as getting to the bus stop.
Living in Birgden offers a unique perspective with its peaceful environment and a mix of local German and NATO families. My husband's job on the Air Base and our kids' school proximity were key reasons we chose to settle here. I find the community's routine and adherence to norms supportive, but navigating these practices as an American presents its own set of challenges.
