Netflix's Drama 'Adolescence' unfolds in an impressive one-take format throughout its four episodes, capturing intense scenes like the arrest of a teenage murder suspect without any edits. Stephen Graham, a pivotal figure in the series, co-wrote and stars as the boy's father, inspired by real stabbing incidents among youth. This ambitious project features a cast of established talents, with Graham collaborating with friends and colleagues. The series blends psychological drama with raw realism, echoing influences from documentary-style storytelling, which enhances its gripping narrative and character depth.
On the surface this sounds like any workaday drama, but the incredible thing about Adolescence is this: the whole sequence is conducted in one take.
To build it out, Graham pulled from talent he'd worked with before. He cast his childhood friend Christine Tremarco to play his wife.
As much as he was excited by the challenges of the shoot, getting to work more with Graham was the real draw.
It was ambitious, and required a dream team. Graham took inspiration from real-life stabbings and previous work to craft this unique narrative.
