"Mom groups are supposed to be a safe place, a support system where you can vent, get advice, and find other people who actually understand what you're going through because motherhood certainly isn't easy. But lately, the internet has been flooded with stories about mom groups that are...allegedly...not that. And if you've ever watched a Real Housewives show, you already know this dynamic isn't limited to celebrities."
"Mom cliques can get toxic fast, and sometimes it happens in real life, in real neighborhoods, and with real consequences. With that in mind, we want to ask the BuzzFeed Community to share their experiences dealing with toxic mom groups. Did you ever find yourself in a situation similar to Ashley Tisdale? Befriending a group of moms, only to notice them acting distant or weird over time? Maybe you were the spouse watching your partner deal with these types of women from afar."
Mom groups are intended to provide safety, support, advice, and understanding for mothers navigating the challenges of parenthood. Numerous online accounts report that some mom groups become exclusionary, distant, or actively toxic, causing emotional strain and social isolation. Clique behavior similar to reality television dynamics can manifest in everyday neighborhoods and produce real consequences. The BuzzFeed Community is soliciting non-celebrity personal experiences about toxic mom groups to document these patterns. Contributors can share stories in the comment section or submit anonymously via an attached Google Form. Selected submissions may be included in an upcoming BuzzFeed feature.
