I Visited an Old Friend. I Was Shocked by Her Family Dynamic.
Briefly

The visit to a friend's home revealed a toxic family dynamic marked by cruel and authoritarian behavior from the parents towards their children. Observations included harsh chastisements for normal behavior, leading to distress among the kids. Despite the negative atmosphere, kindness was shown to the children through play and praise. Concerns arose about the impact of the parents' treatment, prompting thoughts about how to approach the situation and help the children. There was hesitation about confronting the parents due to potential backlash.
Every comment dripped with disdain. The kids were chastised harshly and threateningly over totally normal kid behavior. Their behavior was authoritarian, cruel, and belittling.
I didn't know what to do. I managed to play with and have nice conversations with each kid and showered them with praise.
I want to help those kids, if I possibly can. What else can I do?
Starting a confrontation with someone who seems to have an unhappy, simmering domestic situation...what could go wrong?
