I stayed home when my 5 kids were little. Now that they are teens, I'm wondering whether I made the right choice.
Briefly

As a mother of five, the burden of rising costs associated with older children has taken a toll on my finances. Despite modest incomes from my public school teacher husband and my freelancing, our expenses have skyrocketed—tripling in some areas—while our income remains the same. Monthly costs for necessary expenses, such as travel sports and car insurance, illustrate the increasing financial strain. The reality of teenagers’ financial demands—ranging from basic needs to higher insurance premiums—has become overwhelming and unanticipated.
I guess I should have expected how widely expensive life would be as a parent, but I can honestly say that I did not expect how dramatically more expensive my kids would be as they got older.
With five children - and teenagers at that - I just don't know how to make it all work.
Our cost of living has gone up. Our bills have quite literally tripled in some instances, but our income has not risen.
Teenagers come with an entirely new onslaught of expenses that I didn't prepare myself for - everything costs more with teens.
