I regret upgrading to first class to fly overnight with my 8-month-old child
Briefly

On her first overnight flight with an infant, the author initially upgraded to first class, hoping for better sleep with lie-flat seats. However, the experience was disappointing due to airline restrictions on bassinet use and increased disruptions from in-flight service. In contrast, on the return flight in bulkhead coach seating, both the author and her baby slept better and encountered less hassle. Ultimately, her conclusion is to avoid first class in favor of the comfort and practicality of coach for future travels with her infant.
I ended up trying first class with my infant, but the reality did not live up to expectations. We slept better in coach and my infant cried less.
I was drawn to first class for the lie-flat seating, thinking it would improve our sleep on the overnight flight. I was mistaken.
One key frustration was that the airline required our baby to be out of the bassinet whenever the seatbelt sign was on, disrupting our sleep.
Next time, I’ll definitely choose coach again. The bulkhead seats were both better and cheaper for our family situation.
