In her new book, Caroline Darian accuses her mother, Gisele Pelicot, of failing to support her allegations of sexual abuse by Dominique Pelicot, Gisele's husband. Dominique Pelicot, known as the 'Monster of Avignon,' was convicted for orchestrating a mass rape scheme involving his wife, leading to his imprisonment. Caroline's revelations are compounded by her own trauma and feelings of abandonment, as she uncovers disturbing evidence of abuse, including troubling photographs from her childhood. Her narrative highlights the complexities of familial betrayal amidst a backdrop of societal issues surrounding rape and abuse.
In her new book So That We May Remember, Ms Darian expresses her anger that her mother did not support her claim that she was also raped by her father, 72.
I know that I was sedated and abused by my father, but I cannot prove it. These two photographs knocked me over, I am sure (there) are others, she wrote.
