The Universities of Wisconsin system faced severe backlash after initially deciding to only release university-level enrollment numbers. After criticism from families and transparency advocates, they released detailed campus-level data.
For nearly a decade, the University of Wisconsin system has encountered declining enrollment, with six out of its thirteen branch campuses closing or transitioning fully online due to this ongoing challenge.
While overall enrollment showed a slight increase by 0.7%, campus-level data revealed continued declines at several branch campuses, particularly alarming drops at UW Stevens Point's two-year campuses.
The enrollment numbers are stark, with UW Wausau's student count dropping from 364 to 286 and Marshfield seeing a 44% decrease, illustrating the ongoing plight of branch campuses.
