Demand for remote degree programs has surged due to COVID-19, but completion rates for online students remain troublingly low, often below 50 percent.
At Southern New Hampshire University, only 36 percent of students who enrolled in 2015 graduated in eight years, revealing the struggle of online learners to complete their degrees.
Liberty University, an early adopter of online education, reported that only 42 percent of students from the 2015 entry cohort received a degree within eight years.
Part-time, first-time online students face even lower completion rates, with only 14 percent at SNHU and Grand Canyon earning degrees after eight years.
