After hurricane and wildfires, colleges continue aiding students

Glendale Community College formed its basic needs department, GCC CARES, with a vision for disaster preparedness. This foresight proved invaluable when wildfires devastated the area, displacing students and destroying homes. The department, strengthened by growing staff and funding over four years, swiftly partnered with companies to provide essential support, including financial relief for evacuees. The continued effort, backed by donations and community contributions, showcases the importance of institutional readiness in aiding students during crises effectively.
The basic needs department at GCC, established to support students in emergencies, sprang into action during the recent wildfires, demonstrating the significance of preparedness.
And during this time of crisis, we worked closely with corporate partners to ensure our students had access to essential resources to recover from displacement.
