The Somali Teaching Group, active for nearly 30 years, will benefit from a complete kitchen refurbishment, highlighting the Royal Borough of Greenwich's commitment to support community organizations. Utilizing the online platform Match My Project (MMP), the council connects businesses like Amber Construction with local groups in need. This initiative, part of a trial aimed at fostering partnerships, aims to alleviate the impact of 14 years of underfunding. The upgraded kitchen will significantly improve services, allowing the center to provide essential meals and a welcoming space for vulnerable community members, emphasizing the power of collaboration in social value.
Councillor Denise Hyland highlighted, "As a council, we're still feeling the enormous impact of 14 years of underfunding, so it's important that we use every avenue open to us to support our communities."
The Somali Teaching Group's kitchen had become old and run-down, making it difficult for the group to provide food and drinks to those who rely on their services.
"We're proud to be among just 10 local authorities and housing associations using Match My Project, which connects businesses with community groups in need," said Councillor Hyland.
The free kitchen refurbishment will enable the centre to offer warm meals, refreshments, and a safer, welcoming space for children, elderly residents, and families in need.
