Meta and Internet Society team up to expand internet access around the world
Briefly

Meta, alongside the Internet Society, has initiated the Connectivity Co-Funding Initiative, pledging $30 million by 2030 to improve internet access globally. Announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the initiative will address areas often neglected by commercial providers. Funding will support infrastructure projects and training for marginalized groups, as well as support for locally owned networks to foster job creation. This partnership extends their previous collaboration on Internet exchange points to improve connectivity in several regions, and the Internet Society is seeking additional partners to further develop this crucial fund.
"This new Connectivity Co-Funding initiative, supported by Meta, is a prime example of collective action that will help provide meaningful access to more than 2 billion people across the world with insufficient or no Internet."
"It is our hope that this fund plays a pivotal role in reducing this gap and creating a more equitable digital society."
