Mastodon is about to launch its take on Bluesky's starter packs
"Mastodon is preparing to roll out 'Collections', a feature that allows users to find and create lists of accounts worth following, inspired by Bluesky Starter Packs."
"Users can create a Collection with a short description and topic, and mark them as 'sensitive', which hides the description and accounts behind a content warning."
"Imani Joy, Mastodon's head of design, stated that Collections won't have a 'Follow All' button initially, addressing feedback about mass following from Bluesky Starter Packs."
"Mastodon aims to focus on the creation of Collections to reach a critical mass before enhancing discovery experiences, eventually allowing server owners to recommend Collections."
Mastodon is introducing a feature called 'Collections' that allows users to create lists of up to 25 accounts worth following. Users on participating servers can add descriptions and topics to their Collections and mark them as sensitive. Notifications will be sent when an account is added to a Collection, and users can report Collections. The focus is on creation rather than discovery, with plans for server owners to recommend Collections during onboarding. The feature will first roll out on the mastodon.social server before a wider launch.
