The U.S. EPA proposed relaxing restrictions on the toxic pesticide acephate, despite known links to developmental problems. The proposal allows 10 times more acephate than current limits.
The EPA based its decision on new tests conducted on cells instead of whole lab animals, finding 'little to no evidence' of harm to the developing brain from acephate breakdown products.
