What We Know So Far About the Cave Collapse in Iceland, as Two Tourists Remain Missing
Briefly

At least one person has died and two others are still missing after an ice cave partially collapsed while about 25 tourists were exploring the Breidamerkurjokull glacier. Two tourists suffered serious injuries when four individuals were hit by falling ice. Despite one fatality, another injured person was airlifted to a hospital and is reportedly stable. Rescuers worked late into the evening to locate the two missing individuals, pausing operations overnight due to hazardous conditions, with hopes to resume at dawn.
The operation to rescue the two missing tourists proved challenging due to the glacier's rugged terrain, necessitating the use of chainsaws for cutting through ice by hand. Even though the group was on a guided tour, most of the tourists were outside the ice cave when it partially collapsed. Local police indicated that the accident occurred around 3 p.m., shortly after a volcanic eruption was recorded about 300 kilometers away, but they confirmed there was no connection between the two events.
