Weather tracker: At least three dead as Typhoon Shanshan barrels through Japan
Briefly

Typhoon Shanshan has left at least three dead and about 40 injured across Japan, causing extensive damage, especially in the Kyushu region where rainfall was unprecedented.
The deluge in some areas calculated at 300-400mm over 24 hours is staggering, accounting for roughly 50-55% of the UK's average annual rainfall, showcasing Shanshan’s severity.
With maximum gusts reaching 130mph, Typhoon Shanshan caused critical disruptions as it made landfall in Kagoshima, pushing local communities to prepare for life-threatening floods and landslides.
Despite the initial devastating winds and rainfall, Shanshan is expected to weaken as it moves northeast but may still generate additional severe weather conditions over the weekend.
