SpaceX's recent Starship launch ended in explosion shortly after takeoff, leading to diversions for flights in the vicinity. Passengers aboard one flight from the Dominican Republic to Chicago encountered flaming debris and captured the moment on video, which went viral on TikTok. In response to the explosion, the FAA closed Florida airspace and instituted ground stops at various airports, echoing previous disruptions caused by a similar event in January that rained debris over the Caribbean. Despite the alarming circumstance, passengers expressed a mix of intrigue and nervousness throughout the experience.
"If you look to your right, one of the rockets just blew up," Siler said. "So then we looked through a window, and that's when I grabbed my phone and recorded it."
SpaceX's Starship spun out of control shortly after its launch and exploded as it reached space, prompting a temporary ground stop at several airports.
