According to scientists from the University of Reading, for temperature forecasts, the Met Office is the most accurate, while BBC Weather excels in rain predictions.
Dr Rob Thompson indicated that BBC Weather is slightly better at predicting rain, but its forecasting variability means it's generally harder to predict with accuracy.
On average, both the Met Office and BBC Weather predicted precipitation about 17% of the time, while actual occurrences were under 10%.
As of January 13, the Met Office was more accurate in temperature forecasts, but BBC Weather provided a more useful forecast regarding rain predictions.
