The mind-bending mirrors behind advanced technology
Briefly

The primary mirror, M1, is the largest mirror ever made for an optical telescope. It's 39m in diameter, made up of 798 hexagonal segments aligned to behave as a perfect monolithic mirror.
M4 is the largest deformable mirror ever made and can change shape 1,000 times per second, correcting for atmospheric turbulence and vibrations to ensure high-quality imagery.
