The irony is tragic. Bayes is the maths of prediction. This sequence of events is just spectacularly unlikely. His yacht was named after a method for calculating probabilities.
Lynch named his yacht Bayesian in recognition of its role in building his fortune, only to be killed aboard its namesake by an accumulation of wildly off-the-chart improbabilities.
