Study reveals why humans outlived Neanderthals
Briefly

A new study of teeth indicates that humans provided prolonged childcare to their offspring, while young Neanderthals may have gained earlier independence. This difference in childcare strategies may have played a role in the eventual extinction of Neanderthals.
The team analyzed the dental enamel of 423 Neanderthal teeth and 444 Upper Palaeolithic human teeth, finding that enamel defects indicating early-life stress occurred at different developmental stages for both species.
