At a recent defense conference, US Space Force General Michael Guetlein highlighted China's advanced satellite maneuvers that mimic combat operations. These actions, involving synchronized movements of multiple satellites, suggest that China is preparing for potential military scenarios in space. Notably, China's ability to refuel satellites in orbit and the presence of anti-satellite technology point to a growing capability for off-planet conflict. General Guetlein emphasized the necessity of ensuring "space superiority" in the face of increasing aggression from China and Russia in this strategic domain.
We observed five objects in space moving in and out and around each other in synchrony and in control. That's what we call dogfighting in space - they are practicing tactics, techniques and procedures to do in-orbit space operations from one satellite to another.
Gen. Guetlein referenced Chinese satellite maneuvers observed in space, indicating a series of proximity operations involving three Shiyan-24C experimental satellites and two Shijian-6 05A/B.
