A large female frog chomped down on the hind leg of a male while slowly pulling him into a hole. The act of cannibalism was the first between adults recorded in the species.
In cases of adult-adult cannibalism among frogs, it often occurs when females are larger than males, a pattern observed in the green and golden bell frog species.
Cannibalism among amphibians is well known, typically involving the youngest individuals, but adult-adult cannibalism is rare and has seldom been witnessed in the wild.
